Archive: Caller comment board on the Madrigal petition

Would someone have the guts to ask Madrigal and these people who are signing this thing how much of a tax increase are they willing to take to "save our coliseum?"
This is even more ridiculous than the four people on council who told Brass to get lost. Get ready for another forever eyesore on the Bayfront. Makes me want to get the heck out of here so I don't have to think about these types and them wanting to drain more money from my checkbook via my property and sales taxes.

OMG....tear it down. I would think we could build something much nicer as a memorial than revamping a nasty old rotten building. That's what they want??..seems disrespectful to me.

Ok...we all know it's a memorial for the veterans but what a disrespect to them to try and salvage an old building. Why not let someone tear it down and move the plaque to a new facility worthy of our veterans. Better yet, tear it down and have the new contractors build a park area and erect a memorial for our veterans..for the past and future ones.

Maybe this is the only way this issue is going to be resolved -- by majority vote of the tax payers. It is sad, but true. The bottom line is -- are the taxpayers of Corpus Christi willing to put their tax dollars behind re-building this run down structure (my understanding to the tune of $10MM - and let's not forget about the expense of just the upkeep on this building) or tear down the old structure? My concern is that the City Council will never pull the trigger on this issue -- so bring on the vote -- the sooner the better. I just hope the ballot is either "refurbish" or "tear down" -- that should be the decision to be made. The building, in my opinion, needs to be torn down with the City following through with making a pedestrian friendly park space along the sea wall. There is plenty of room to the west of Shoreline for development. Tax incentives should be given to those property owners to improve their lots by removing old buildings / concrete and making the area more attractive. If the area is cleaned up, investors will come and develop the extensive amount of vacant commercial property available for development to the west of Shoreline. A memorial park can be dedicated to the WWII vets. It would be a more appropriate memorial anyway.

If he gets the signatures we'll be stuck with the eyesore until 2011. Then a vote. Then, if that passes, the city has to come up with the money to refurbish it. Then, the city has to figure out what to do with it refurbished, plus there is continued upkeep on it, all of which requires money. So after a few years of sinking money into the coliseum a new city council in, say 2018, says it doesn't have the money to maintain it and the new Memorial Coliseum isn't creating enough revenue to support itself, so they take a vote and they shutter it again. It then falls into disrepair until 2023 when a new city council puts a call out for bids to redevelop it......and then in 2024 Rey Madrigal's Grandson, feeling sentimental, decides to create a petition to save the New Coliseum just like Granddaddy did back in 2009 and force the city council to refurbish it......Urgh.

You figure out how to "restore and reuse" it. And with YOUR money, not mine.

The ABC should not have been built until a plan to dispose or reuse the Coliseum was in place. So let me ask you, just how much of a tax increase are you willing to pay for to make a less expensive venue? Before you answer that, make sure you include the cost to restore the structure to the tune of $10+ million and the cost of routine and preventative maintenance as well as utilities. Now let’s recall how much money the MC lost every day while it was in operation. Do we really need another venue in this city / county that is hemorrhaging money daily? How much money have we spent on consultants and gathering bids to reuse the building already? At some point we have to cut our collective losses.

I'm looking to get into forex trading and was wondering how I could find somebody to teach me. Also I found this site www.marketiva.com and it says that you can start trading for $1 but when I went to open an account they said that they didn't accept people from the US, so I was wondering if there was any others like that one?
